PRepared and Polished

If you already consider yourself well equipped to write your own piece but would like a second set of eyes to edit and assist you, this is for you. I will go over your piece, editing carefully for clarity and consistency to ensure that your message gets across and is tailored to the event. If you have multiple pieces, I can also compare them to ensure that there is no undesirable overlap in structure or stories and that each piece suits the day. For this service, I will send you an initial form so you can tell me about yourself and the event.

Composed and Crafted

You know how you feel, just not how to say it. With this package, I will work closely with you to translate your thoughts to the page—making sure that the final piece is true to your own voice, regardless of what you’re writing. You’ll provide an initial draft or notes and we’ll refine it together. I’ll then complete a final edit, leaving you with a piece that embodies your desired message and fits seamlessly with your occasion.

Tailor-Made

You’ve made the decision to write your own speech, vows, or ceremony, but you have no idea where to start. If, like many people, you are working with an officiant or event planner who is new to you, it can be helpful to establish the parameters of your event on your own terms first, ensuring that your priorities are reflected at each stage and that you can go in with a well composed plan that centres on your words. This package includes an initial call or in-person appointment in Toronto to establish your goals for your day, set the tone, and explore what you most want to communicate to your guests. We’ll discuss how formal the occasion will be, the length of your ceremony or event, who will be in attendance, and any traditions or stories you would like incorporated.

For weddings and personal events: Once we’ve sketched the initial outline together, I will compose a more concrete structure for the ceremony. I will bring this back to you, giving you the opportunity to build it out and fill in the memories and details that are unique to your needs. I will do a final edit before delivering a polished and personalized piece for your day that is still adaptable to any future changes you may want to make.

For corporate and cultural events: Based on your initial communication of the event parameters and speech requirements, I will create a first draft for your review, revising and honing according to your feedback for a maximum of three editorial rounds in total. I will then take everything through a copy edit and proofread to ensure the highest possible professional standards for your event.

Note on Rates

My rates are in line with the Professional Writers Association of Canada guidelines.

Note on scheduling

Please be mindful of your own timing when booking. This kind of personalized work is best undertaken at least a month in advance of the event itself. If you need any touch- ups to your piece or would like to make any changes as your date draws nearer, I am always happy to assist.

Note on inclusion and accessibility

Meaningful inclusion is a key part of my working purpose, and this extends across all spectrums and intersections of sexuality, race, class, ethnicity, gender, relationship style, ability, and age. Everyone deserves to be seen, accepted, and celebrated. Please reach out to discuss sliding scale payments or use of assistive technology if needed.
